The village Torvizcón
lies on the river with the same name at an altitude of 684
metres and has approx. 1000 inhabitants. It's not a tourist
place, but it has got all the necessary facilities.
There is a small medical center. In the village there are
three supermarkets (the Spar, the Coviran and a Spanish
shop), a bakery, three bars, a souvenir shop and a
restaurant.
Torvizcón also has got a post office, a bank (with cash card machine), a chemist and a local swimming pool which is opened during the summer holidays, entrance costs about 1 euro.
Just like all other villages in Spain, Torvizcón
has its local festivals. The most remarkable is the Noche
de San Anton. This takes place in January; they light big
bonfires everywhere in the village, and from a distance it
seems like the whole village is on fire.

Unique for the Alpujarras is the old craft where they make objects using esparto grass. Many examples of this can be found in a small private museum in Torvizcón.
